THE STORY OF DESTINY

She was separated from her Mother who had escaped into the frigid waters, during the terrifying confusion of the seal hunt. Meanwhile the Baby floated away alone, on a tiny raft of pack ice. She drifted throughout the night, desperately calling for her Mother.

Morning came and found her miles from where the humans had caused such panic the day before. After many hours of lonely despair, the two loving Harp Seals found each other; finally safe from the reach of the fishermen! Reunited again, the Mother in her gratitude, named her miracle child "Destiny".

PRAYER

"She found the stone God, the Spirit stones left behind by humans. And she made her way to the feet of the lone Inukshuk to intercede for her kind. Courage brought the words to her mouth as she asked why humans persecuted her family so brutally. Why it had to go on when her clan had done nothing to offend the people of the great ice nation, Kanata. "We are innocent!" she cried, silver tears streaming down her silky-downed face. We plead for your people to leave us in Peace!"

"OUTCRY"

"This image depicts to me, the vulnerability of these gentle creatures. Vulnerable at the hands of Man when callously slaughtered by seal hunters. Fragile in their precarious ecological position. Although slaughtered by numbers exceeding about 300,000 annually with the Canadian Government's blessing, the Harp Seal is actually considered by scientists around the Globe, to be a threatened species. The logic in that? There is none!"

OUTCRY

"An innocent voice cries out in the Wilderness,

"Who will save us?"

I rise up and answer for every child on this planet,

for every person unable to stand for themselves,

for every soul that lives now

and every life that has gone before me.

'We all will, for you are one of us!

A living soul fashioned by the same Hand

"THE ANGELS' HARP"

"Beyond the beginnings of the World, when Time had not yet come to pass and Space was newly wrought, Angels already were. These servants of the Creator, were the conveyors of messages and performers of supernatural deeds. In all their tasks for the Master of All Things, creation was the duty they most cherished. For their loyalty, the Great Mystery gave to these Angelic Beings, a gift. He assigned them to forge a creature so perfect in form and in purpose, that there would be no need for Him to improve upon its countenance.

Being greatly dedicated to music and indeed loving all things of beauty, the Celestial Ones began their wondrous task. Using the finest threads of Kindness, Gentleness and Compassion, they wove and spun with their imaginations and with their hearts, until a creature so precious and so comely to look upon, was at last, created.

Into this little soul they poured all of their love and softness and this is the moment the first Harp Seal was born. Her gentle eyes held the Hope of Angels everywhere that someday, Man would come to value such virtues as this little one embodied: Compassion, Trust, Gentleness and Love.

To pay tribute to one of Creation's most beautious Arts, the Angels with their soulful singing and softly whispered harmonies, named this little one for a much favoured instrument of music. They each sealed this gift with a Heavenly embrace that symbolises even today, the Divine protection Harp Seals everywhere should rightfully enjoy. To violate a Heavenly Decree is to invite the wrath of the Ancients, and Man would do well to treat these fragile Children of the Ice with more care and respect."
