This truly is the most precious symbol of the province of British Columbia in Canada. The White Bear, Kermode or "Spirit Bear" as it is known by First Nations bands throughout the Province, is a rare off-spring of the Black Bear. It is not related to its northern counterpart, the Polar Bear, it is simply the product of an amazing genetic mutation. Found in very few select and mostly isolated places around the BC coast, the Spirit or "Ghost" Bear has come to symbolize much of the mystique and spiritual power of native mythology. We must protect its habitat at all costs. Even hunting Black Bears threatens the Spirit Bear because it is the Black Bear that carries the rare recessive gene for this wonderful species.

Was it frustration or was the animal trying to intimidate me, I'll never know. But this is the result. An eerie, spine-numbing image that would challenge even the calmest person. We also noted a very weird phenomenon appearing in the lower left-hand corner of the image after it was created. An alien's face appears there. Very freaky!

THE LEGEND OF WOLF LAKE
(AURORA'S SONG)
(A short Myth by Skye Ryan-Evans)
The Legend of Wolf Lake tells the story of a beautiful Wolf named Aurora. She was thus called for her love of the glorious Northern Lights that danced and flowed across her sky. She was the only one of her kind who would howl to the Aurora in preference to the Full Moon.
Hearing the deep longing in her voice as she howled, the compassionate Moon took pity upon her and lifted her up into the sky, where she could run and hunt Eternally, among her beloved Northern Lights. Her spirit shines to this day above Wolf Lake, and her howling which echoes through the still Winter Nights, was named "Aurora's Song" .
"THE SHAMAN"
A Shaman sits atop a rocky outcrop and communes with the Spirit of Wolf and the Spirit of Eagle. He is wise and understands that the creatures of the wilderness are not his enemies, for they are his Brothers.
